Default A/C delete? help??

I have a 1989 5.0 LX fox body and my A/C does not work, only the heat works and since I only drive this car in the summer there is really no need for it. I don't have an interest in getting the A/C working again because I prefer the windows down to A/C air. So basically now I want to just take out the entire A/C. I have herd I will gain a tiny bit of parasitic horsepower back, lose about 30 pounds off the front, and save some engine bay space. Is all this true? Do I have to buy an A/C kit of any kind? And is there a good resource for doing this? I don't really know what is part of the A/C and what isn't.

Thanks for any help!

Mike

Yup, all true. You can buy an FRPP a/c delete kit, or I'm sure summit or latemodelresto carries one. Besides that you'll just need a shorter belt and you're all set. Might as well delete smog too if you can, while you're at it.

i did it to mine and i dont notice a difference really i think its just more of a thing to make the engine bay cleaner and lose some front end weight really i got the ford racing one from summit i think it was like $34 but if you dont need the a/c might as well get rid of it

Yea i did the same thing about a year ago, deleted smog and a/c as mine wasnt working either. As said no real seat of the pants feel but you do free up alot of space by losing both the a/c and smog. If you do delete both you will need the a/c delete kit that moves your power steering up higher and you will need to modify your idler pulley so the belt doesnt rub on itself. Its simple to do, just remove the idler and you will see there is a hole the idler sits in you just need to drill a new one an inch or so upward so the pulley doesnt push down so far and make the belt rub on itself.

actually you dont need to modify anything. just route the belt slightly different
like this using the frpp ac bracket and no smog

i think i used a 71.5 or 72.5 inch belt oh i have under drives too

Get underdrive pulleys. They have a smaller diameter water pump pulley, that way you won't be rubbing. I did them about 2 years ago when I deleted my a/c. It was definitely a noticeable gain.

edit: Nvm, the UD water pump is larger diameter I think.
