What level of sound change can I expect with BBK shorties?

Default Questions about going with shorty headers?

My 1994 GT currently is pretty stock, just has a Flowmaster 50 cat-back that I installed last Summer.

I was curious, since my dad will hardly let me do anything else to the car, how much sound BBK shorty (unequal) headers would add to the car? I don't have enough money for long tubes and a new midpipe (plus my dad would even more not let me do that).

I can't seem to find any videos of 5.0 mustangs with just a flowmaster exhaust and bbk shorties :\

Here is the sound of my exhaust while I seafoamed my car last Fall:

How much louder would the shorties make it? Would it still sound throaty or will it be more raspy?

Also, any ideas on going ceramic vs chrome?

Thanks!

+1 you probably won't notice much if anything in the way of sound or performance, i'd probably wait til your dad will let you do the midpipe as well.

If you want a sound/power gain replace the stock H pipe with an offroad or high flow, that'll give you a lot more than the shorty headers will.

Alright, I believe you guys because I did a little more searching and found people were saying the same thing about shorties.

Now just for kicks, i guess...

For the midpipe, what do you recommend, x-pipe or h-pipe? I heard an h-pipe would have a more classic muscle car sound, while the x-pipe would give a more raspy sound. I definitely don't want raspy.

i agree with onyx, theres more sound change in the midpipe, if your after sound id get the midpipe over the shorties.the only thing i noticed with mine was it MAYBE got a little bit deeper sounding. However it had been over a month since i started my car and i think it was more wishful hearing then anything.

Sorry, it would be with cats. In Washington they have emissions testing frequently.

Get a off road H pipe, and you will **** bricks. haha.

keep your stock pipe and put it back on for emmissions testing. IDK how frequent they test you, but here its every 2yrs. But for me its worth taking the pipes off and putting them back on for the sound.

For me i already had the off road H pipe, and a MAC catback when i installed the shorties. I DID notice a deeper sound at idle. a BIT tiny bit louder. at 2200-3000rpm i have this nice rumble from the exhaust when WOT, the headers made it louder, and seem's to be longer, the sound seems to be there 200-300rpm's longer.

might sound crazy or hard to understand, but both me and the girlfriend noticed the difference.

go with what you want, but a offroad H pipe will get that "wow" your looking for.

well depends on what ur looking for in sound. if u want an old school muscle car sound go with the o/r h. if u want it to scream at wot go with o/r x. u wont be disappointed with either. ive had both on my 95 with flows and they both sounded really good.
