Question air silencer removal

Is it worth removing the air silencer? I heard this makes the driver able to hear the intake inhaling air? What does this help do?..And finally is there any power gains?

If you haven't in a while, might want to get a good air filter replacement. I went to take off my silencer last fall and found my filter was warped horribly and was very dirty. So bad, I made a demotivational poster:

I finished taking off the air silencer and it only took about 5 mins! Now I was wondering if 87-93 had the WOT because I tried to do it on my stock 5.0 and it doesn't happen? If they don't what can be done to make the WOT happen? My 87 vert has an aod tranny and the stock exhaust if it matters.
