How much hp gain if you remove the cats?
#5
I noticed a big increase when I replaced mine, but thats propably because my 21 year old cats were plugged full of ****. As for a smog delete its not needed when going to an offroad pipe,I think 86 5.0 was talking about a smog delete with cats on,that will cause an issue. I also noticed a substantial exhaust note increase, you cant beat the sound of an offroad H with flowmaster 40s on a 5.0

With a full aftermarket exhaust setup (from the headers and back) I would say ~5 HP. Otherwise, not much HP gain. But it makes the exhaust sound more throaty. I like it and would recommend it depending on how strict emission laws are your area.

I did it mostly for the sound but I had the car on a dyno and it's completely stock aside from the midpipe. It put down 226 hp (corrected for weather) so going by the general consensus that 5.0 Cobras make about 220 stock I'd say the 5-7 hp is plausible.

the gains definately have to be more than 5 rwhp...i dont think ive ever owned a mustang (owned alot too) that didnt give me at least 8-10 rwhp with headers alone...full exhaust will give more...not only will headers and full exhaust increase power, it will lay a foundation for future mods that will benifit from a free flowing exhaust...
so dont think of it as just 10-15 rwhp....but the "big" picture
