Stumped, car barely runs.
Car barely runs if I can even get it to start. It's popping and carrying on, shooting flames out the exhaust ( open headers). If I do get it running it has no throttle response and won't rev past 2500-3000. I restabbed the dizzy multiple times to make sure I didn't miss anything. I'm sure I have it dead on, or atleast close enough to make it driveable. I've never had a problem doing timing in the past so I don't think that's the issue. It also will not even really try to start much unless I pump the pedal while cranking. I thought about it being low on gas ( though with flames shooting out the exhaust that shouldn't be a problem) So I dumped about 3 gallons in'r. Any ideas?
Recent work: Rebuilt the motor last summer, had it running good unless you went WOT under a load, then it sounded like it was hitting a rev limiter. It only showed 4" of vacuum at idle ( I sealed the upper to lower with RTV, DAHHH). I replaced that with a real gasket recently, as well as replaced all vacuum hoses.
Any ideas? I can't run any KOEO tests, I've tried and it was unresponsive. My car has had a mess of electrical problems over the years, so I'm sure something is haywire in that system.
Sorry for the huge post. Any clues?

When was the last time you replaced your balancer? You may have stabbed the dizzy right but going off the wrong marks if your balancer has spun on you at all. It does sound like you timming is 180 out.

Well I set TDC with a screw driver in the plug hole and then referenced it to the balancer and it was at 0*, so I should be pretty darn close and definately not 180 degrees off. I have never replaced the balancer. I don't know if the previous owner did at any point.
I have checked all the plug wires for continuity, they all seemed to be around 7-10k. Plugs are new.

Yes, I'm aware of how to Set TDC. I've done this. I put a timing light on it like last week when I got it running, and it seemed that it changed like a good 20*. I'd set it to fire #1 at TDC, and then when it ran it was way off. I'll have to check this again maybe tomorrow and see if I get the same problem. That really doesn't make sense to me.
