5.0 Mustang hesitates bad dead spots HELP!
Mustang 88 GT runs like Crap idle , no power at times dead spots ....
Did KOEO all good except the emisson codes air,egr,etc....
KOER got a code 12 idle out of range high and cant get rid of it ...
Wiggle test failed without touching anything
Replaced cleaned IAC ,IAT,coolant sensor, tps 0.98v , MAF , o2 sensors , Checked wiring harness (salt pepper connectors and applied electric grease to all) , checked timing numerous times @12 , performed idle reset , checked vacuum leaks all over numerous times even where the pcv valve is .... even checked fixed few grounds seem to help at first than next day back to square one...
NGK FR5 plugs they look greyish white at the tip and dark brown at base
basically car runs weird .. when it idles good 750 rpm steady it runs good at wot good mid range power....
but when it idles high 950 rpm or so up n down it runs like crap, fumes , hesitates pings at (WOT)like timing changes by itself maybe running lean . i tried idle adjustments up and down but it changes slightly by itself . also i noticed that when you start it cold when it runs for just a bit and you shut it down and re-start it starts and rpm shoot up to 2k and down to 500rpm and it shuts off ????? i'm lost i tried everything except new ecu any ideas pls help i know another idle thread but what should i do .
.. read it if you skipped..
somebody say something and idea is considered !!! except giving up right hehe
car is 88gt maf converted A9L, 75mm pmass maf ,stock airbox, 24lb injectors , 34psi fuel vac on , 190lph pump, regulator, TFS top end kit , bbk tb , no emission equipment... runs good when it wants to...

Sounds like a problem with the pickup inside the distributor. There's a test somewhere linked on here for it, Joel5.0 or MJR probably know where it is.
That pickup controls timing and injector pulse, which would contribute greatly to a high idle, miss, ping, etc.. They are succeptable to heat failures, so if this problem seems to be heat related, I'd start there.

just for ****s n giggles have you checked the fuel pressure? and there is a possibility ecu is bad... try taking the connector out of the sprout on the dizzy wires.. then time it and leave it out.. that should set the timing dead nuts and not change again.. This is just to test timing.. I would also check the distributor pick up and module.. When did the car start doing this?

ok did u say that it was throwing a code for the egr? if thats what u said i would make sure the egr valve is hooked up right and is in good shape i had a similiar problem a month ago on my 93 gt and it was because the egr valve was hooked up wrong by the guy i bought it from. it caused the car t run pretty bad and idle like crap it kinda lopped like it had a hot cam or something
