Does the shaft install from the top or bottom? Im in the process of changing my pump.

goes in from the bottom, the little metal ring should go towards the dizzy not towards the pump, this way when the dizzy is pulled for any reason the shaft wont pull out of the oil pump and fall down in the pan and ruin your day.

Drop it down in before installing your distributor. My friend and I connected a socket that fit in onto a screwdriver with extensions and turned it to make sure it was pumping oil.

make sure the retainer wont move either. ive had it when i got everything together and tryin to put the dizzy in to be done....the shaft did fall down into the pan, due to the retainer being loose..
