hello marcus, Im aode08
I'm looking at your situation and see that you have stock heads and a stock 302.
Now , assuming you do, the stock cylinder heads are more than likely carbon ed up, and naturally air restrictive.
Your RWHP is probably less than theirs as well.
So how much are you wanting to throw into the engine, money wise and when?
If you see the STIs now and then, the best solution financially is a bottle of nitrous, use as needed,.

a 100 shot with sticky tire's will have you smoking them.
a set up that would be there "at all times" wouldent have to worry about opening a bottle would be decent heads (trick flow twisted wedge heads) intake (cheap would be a typhoon intake) and a cam (custom is the way to go around $300-400)
a head/cam/intake 5.0 with bolt on's and full exhaust will hit 300 horse power at the wheel pretty easy.
that will take down 90% of the WRX/STI ETC car's.
add a 100 shot ontop of that and your pushing 400horse power and 450+ torque to the wheels.
suspension and tire's are needed at these point's though, dont over look them.
good luck.

There is alot you can do with 7k. Before you start with a list of parts you also need to sit and think about where you are going with the car other than beating STi's. And are you talking just on the track or street and track?

I figured that I have been lurking around here long enough and it was finally time to post. I especially had to chime in on this topic as I love my 93 Mustang but I also daily drive a 2005 STI. My STI isnt stock and is pushing about 425hp at the flywheel. It can whoop on most cars out there but my stang always did beat it side by side when I would let my friend drive my STI. At the time, the stang had an ATI procharger on with 42lb injectors, MAF and all the ncessary stuff. The Stang also has 410 gears which helped alot. I can honestly say that by adding a turbo or procharger and the necessary mods, you can easily beat a stock or mildly modified STI with no problems. I sadly had to take the procharger off the car as I have a daughter ready to drive soon and she doesnt need all of that power. So if anyone is looking for a complete ATI Procharger system, let me know.
Thanks,
Chuck
