Default fuel problem

1990 5.0 5spd.

when the car runs it has 40 lbs under load and at idle. when it decides to die which seems to be temperature related(when its hot) it drops to about 7 lbs. then when you cycle the key you can hear the pump run and then shut off like its built up pressure but the gauge doesnt move. if you cycle it anywhere from 10-25 times it will slowly bounce up like 10- 17-25-30-40. then the car will run for a minute or two then it will drop to like 7 lbs again.

i unplugged the pressure regulator but did not hook up a pump to it and that made no change.

sounds like u got a bad fuel pump, pull the pump relay and run a fused jumper wire between the power and the switched power make sure its not the relay dieing/over heating. but sounds like a pump

i was thinking that but why would it build up pressure and shut off? or act like it. shouldnt it constantly run if no pressure is being built.

fuel pump runs and shuts off in the koeo mode based on preprograming of the ecm to do such when no PIP signal is seen that is generated by the dizzy, it is not pressure related to work as such you would have to have a fp sensor and you don't
