Default Installing rear axle bearings

Could someone give me a run through of how the new bearings and seals go in. I have the slide hammer and everything to remove the old ones. Thanks

really not that hard.after you pop the cover and remove the pin, push in the axle and the c-clip will come out.as you pull the axle out you can actually use the end of the axle where the c-clip went to remove the seal rather easily.insprct the axle where the bearing rides for wear. they have sleeves for this if it is. with the slide hammer hook the old bearing and with about 5 or 6 good pounds it will come out.make sure everything is good and clean.on reassembly i use the old bearing or appropiate size socket and a 2 pound hammer, make sure the bearing goes in straight and seats all the way in. it will make a more solid thump sound when it does. install the seal carefully and i like to use a small amount of rtv just to keep the seapage down.use some gear oil and put on the axle and bearing on assemble.install c-clip and pin. replace cover and fill with some high quality gear oil like mobil 1 . and dont forget the friction modifier. good luck and keep us updated.

One question on the oil i bought stuff for limited slip differentials. When it says that does it mean that it already has the friction modifier in it? Are there any markings i can look for on the bottle? Thanks

yes it already has it in there, I usually add the modifier on top of it for piece of mind but not necessary

Alright thanks a lot. Also i got my axles in the mail today and they seem to be different the spines are longer on one and the shaft tapers different from the bearing surface. Will this matter at all?

Alright thanks. One last thing whats the absolute best way to knock the new bearings in and the seals?
Also mjr you say you add friction modifier on top if i added some extra would it hurt anything, because i think my friction plates are starting to get worn.
Thanks guys
