Default camshafts?

Hello, could someone point me in the right direction for learning about cam shafts for my 95 GT?

My car has minimal engine work, just a few bolt ons. Its got headers, 3.73 gears, aluminum driveshaft, flowmasters, and underdrive pulleys.

I'm just looking for something that will increase the horepower, and also give it a nice glug glug glug.

Are these ones any good?

stay away from letter cams. old technology. comp cams or custom cam is the way to go.

if you dont have heads yet...save your money. putting in a cam with stock heads is a waste of your money and time.

I agree, stay away from the letter cams. They're OK, and will boost power over stock. But, like he said, they're old technology. You can do better. I prefer Comp Cams, But Lunati is also very good.

Unless you're engine combo is somewhat wild, I wouldn't waste money on a custom cam. It would be better, but considerably more expensive.

Is it a waste of money to change the cam and not the heads? Well, maybe not a waste. But you won't get the cams full potential without heads. It would definatly be better than stock, though.

I read another post that suggested this:

Comp Cams XE276HR 5.0L Camshaft

Now this is a amatuer question, please bear with me!

If I leave the stock heads for now, and got this cam installed, would I at least get the awesome idle noise that makes cams so cool in the first place?

Also, I am lead to believe that gt40 heads are the best choice for a budget minded individual. Do I want the gt40P or just the GT40 heads?

Thanks!

gt40's are generally the more desired head, keep in mind you'll probably drop approx 400+ dollars just to get them on your car unless you buy them already done for cheaper. then all you need is gaskets.

yes that cam will give you an agressive sound but the lopey noise you're looking for. if all you want is noise without the performance, get a thumper cam. lumpy as hell.

I thought the cool part of cams was the added power.... Putting in a lumpy cam is a near stock engine will make the car slower. Sorry but nothing is more lame IMO than a car that "sounds" fast but is a turd. If you want a decent little boost, keep the stock cam and swap out the valve springs (which is a 100% MUST HAVE when you do a cam swap anyways). You will get more rpm out of the engine and a decent little boost in power, esp if you put in a set of GT40's.

Ya slower is not cool. More performance plus the lumpy sounds is ideal for me. I'll look into the springs, thanks.

Just one more thing, what kind of HP power increase would you guess with a good cam and gt40 heads?
