tko 600 issues need advice
So I've had a tko 600 in my car for about 4 months now, probably put about 4,000 miles on it. Can't even remember where I got the kit from right now lol, but I had JBA in san diego install the whole thing back in april because they had a deal on labor so i figured why mess with it myself.
Since I have had the transmission it has had a whine in 3rd gear, and still doesn't shift that great, especially going into first. What is weird about the whine is it is always intermittent; sometimes its there and sometimes its not. It is also only really at partial throttle at around 2,000 rpm. However, the whine has gotten progressively louder and I figured I should probably have it checked out.
I think JBA did a crappy job installing it (probably why their price was so cheap for labor), but everything is new. New heavy duty pilot bearing, new throwout bearing, and a new spec stage 3 clutch. My first guess is that the whine is either a pinon angle problem due to the kit being a custom fit, so the pinon angle is wrong. My other guess was the clutch because I still do not have an adjustable clutch cable on the car. Any suggestions or help would be great, thanks.

do you know what tranny fluid they put in it? have you checked to see if its full? The trick with tko's is having a perfectly adjusted clutch, when mine is out of wack its hard to shift. So get a good FWA,Cable,Quad and that should help it out on the shifting

They put royal purple in it, even though I told them that tremec specifically says to use the gm synchromesh. Changed the fluid over to synchromesh about a month ago, that helped some. I already have a steeda double quadrant and adjustable clutch cable just never got around to installing it, I guess i'll try that first.

I have a TKO 600 in my car also.. I have noticed that mine whines pretty good in 3rd and 5th. Alot of people that i have talked to say it is common with these trannies. From what i have gathered the tko 600 is hard to get in 1st sometimes, grinds reverse unless you go into a forward gear first, loud 3rd and 5th, and shifts better the more it gets worn in.. As long as mine doesn't break on me i will be satisfied.. Its notchy as hell though, but i still like it.. Its re-assuring to know that when i speed shift i don't have to worry about a t-5 crapping out on me!!

Mine whines a bit in 1st and 2nd when decelerating in gear at low rpm. I've found the Synchromesh is the best fluid to use in them though, least noise and best shifting quality. My 5th was loud as hell when I first put it in, but it's gotten pretty quiet now. The shifting is a tad notchy because of the synchro type they use, but after it breaks in for a while it gets better. They can be particular to clutch adjustment, but they're also very particular to bellhousing alignment.
