Exclamation Pro Electric Help PLEASE

i have a big electrical gremlin i am workin on and i have posted once about this and made a good bit of progress so far (Original thread: https://mustangforums.com/forum/5-0-...ml#post6296337) but i still haven't solved my problem.

So far I have replaced my starter, starter cable, battery, battery cables, distributor cap and rotor, starter selenoid, ignition coil, all fusible links around starter selenoid, and the ignition switch.

Now i get power, the dome light comes on, i get the door open chime, i have headlights and tail lights, windows, radio, etc.

When i turn the key to the 'on' position i get a noise from the starter area which sounds like a vaccuum cleaner starting up. I no longer get a noise from the starter selenoid, but again, i find it odd that it is making a noise when they key is turned to 'on' as opposed to 'crank'.

Also if anyone can take a picture of their starter selenoid and post a picture that would be helpful, i am not sure if i have mine hooked up correctly.

Any suggestions would be helpful, and i appreciate your help. Thanks

The starter solenoid has two posts on it, obviously, the one towards the front of the car should only have the cable running to the starter. The one closest to the firewall should have the battery cable, the alternator cable, and all other fusible links on it. Make sure the rings are flat and flush with each other. Also make sure you don't overtighten bolts such as these. The only noise you should when the ignition is on is the fuel pump or the radio. Someone just posted a pic of a starter solenoid to aid me, so I'll link the thread.

Okay, i got the selenoid hooked up the correct way, starter cable on the post closer to the front of the car, and the battery cable and others on the post closer to firewall.

I realize that the fuel pump is the only think i should hear when the key is in the on position, however this is not the case. i am posting a video of the noise and a few pictures in a second.

Does anyone have any idea why the starter would be spinning when the key is in the on position as opposed to the crank position?

The first nosie is just my clutch, its been doing that since i got the car. the second noise sounds like it is the starter. And remember, this is when the key is "on" not "crank"

I can't really listen to the sound since I am at work... but about 2 and a half years ago after starting up my car, releasing the key from the crank position to the on position, the motor kept cranking over. Or should I say the starter kept going. I forget the exact problem, but I had to have the starter replaced and maybe the solenoid, can't honestly remember. This was on a 2 month old starter, mind you.

grab a test light and see where you have 12v in the run position, you shouldn't have any current on the starter wire in run, if you do b ack trace it to prob, or a wire is in the wong spot on the selonoid

If you do find power at the big starter wire. You then need to find out why.
It's either the solenoid stuck closed or the small wire on the top in your picture is hot during key on. It should only be hot when the clutch is down and the key is in start position.

Even after you get that all sorted out. That sounds like a starter spinning but not engaging to the flywheel.

Is the starter a one or two wire?
One wire starters have one big wire near the front, on top.
Two wire starters have a big one in the middle with a small one beside it.
