Need Help with 331 build-up
#11
before I saw this post, I was going to recommend that you sell the entire top end package because its really going to put a damper on the performance you will get from the 331.
but since its going into such a little car, it might be wise to keep that top end. It will add some control to the motor and help keep the car under you.
also, don't listen to Liquid O2, he thinks his car is king ****, but really doesnt have a clue! truth is, box stock TW heads are best used on a 302. anything 331-347 cubes should be using a 185cc head MINIMUM! My 347 is running a set of ported 192cc heads that are roughly 200-205cc right now.
I wish you good luck with your miata build, as that is something I have wanted to do for a long time now.
quick question though... what year did you decide on? I was trying to find a 94-95 because the 94-97 was the years with the increased chassis strength, but 94-95 was still OBD-1.. so it would be a bit easier for me to get through emissions with it.

Thanks again to everyone for their input.
I went with a 90 Miata, simply because I found a really good one for $1700. I plan on bracing things up quite a bit and the nice thing is that there are ton of aftermarket braces available for the 90-97 Miata's. It is not going to be a track car (it will be on the track though), but more of a "hot rod" so to say. A sleeper that will wake you up. I got a long ways to go though. It will probably be another year before the engine swap is complete and as we all know, it never really ends.

i just helped put a 306 in a buddy of mines Nissan 240. motor had some small dome pistons, AFR 185's, COMP XE274, custom 1 3/4 headers (as long tube as they could be), TF track heat manifold, 70mm TB, etc etc. and a 2.95 T5 with the Astro Perf. .79 OD 5th.
car hasnt been dynoed, we tuned it and it runs fine, all i know id the car hauls unholy a$$...
roughly the same motor in an even lighter car...?
