Default Knock Issue-Flexplate?

I need some help . I just dropped in a new motor. I installed a new SFI approved flexplate and a 2800 stall ACC converter. I now have a problem.

On a cold start it sounds great. After it reaches operating temp it sounds terrible. A loud knock with rpms when in park or neutral. Almost sounds like a rod knock but it completely disappears when you put it in gear. During driving there is also no noise and it pulls and drives fine with good oil pressure-25psi at hot idle. I crawled under and it sounds like it is coming from the bellhousing.

I pulled the inspection plate and checked the TC nuts-two were loose. Not real loose but a couple turns. I read that may have been enough to throw the plate off balance and crack it. I couldn't see any cracks when I looked though. I also did the shade tree mechanic thing and listened with a screwdriver and seemed to trace the sound there

Any ideas on what may be causing the noise? Could the converter be bad? Did the loose nuts crack the plate?

Help

Thanks

check the starter the gears drive may be hitting the teeth on the flexplate, had one the other day like that with an aftermarket starter on it

I will-thanks. I am still running the stock 20 year old starter. I was under the car when it was running and didn't see it hitting but I will get under again to make sure.

Would that sound go away when put in gear? Seems llike it would be constant

depends on the load/ movement of it, without hearing the noise it's hard to diagnosis

I know-trying to describe a noise on the net is terrible. It's not a metallic rod knock but man is it annoying. Kinda sounds like something is loose and hitting a bracket but I will def check the starter

Thanks
