This is what I do for a living. I'm not just some guy with a Mustang and claim to know everything about everything like half the people in forums. It's pretty obvious you are one of them as well. "Put it on the dyno" the classic "I don't know any better" response. You have no idea how magnetic fields work and the force behind them, which is how your alternator generates electricity. You've never loaded up an alternator to check one, you've never seen the effect of that load on an engine.

This is true about the alternator load with the fan on, but mine only runs when idling, driving under 30mph for a long period of time(cycling) or when the a/c is on. It would be off for a bonsai run anyway.

i do roughly understand how an alternator works. But what i cant grasp is how an alternator alone can be more force than both an alternator and fan.

Well you're using the alternator to power a fan............ Load will be greater than that of the fan, no such thing as free power, it has to be greater than that of the fan that it's powering, unless they magically develop an alternator that's more than 100% efficient, which will never, ever happen. Basically dis-regard the alternator in the equation of the clutch fan as it has nothing to do with that, you're not putting any extra load on it to power it. By putting more load on the alternator, it gets harder to turn it.

+1
(however i wouldnt say "never, ever happen." Tesla designed a generator that would continually create energy once started, more energy then it took to start and power the same generator.)

I understand what you guys are saying about electric fans freeing up horse power because the mechanial one robs the motor of HP.

I had a couple of cars here in town running centrificals, the electric fans weren't cooling them down enough.

That DSO police issue fan clutch is awesome it's like a tornado in the shroud. It moves a ton of air.

They were made for the old fox police cruisers sitting at idle in a parking lot for hours at a time.

I had an electric in mine and I hated it.My car ran at 215, I went back to the stock set up with that DSO fan clutch and it knocked me all the way down to 190. IMO if the car ran hot with the electric,it was robbing hp.

It all depends on your environment.

That's not true, never has been done, another one of those things on paper that never worked by Tesla, if it did work, we'd be using it now. There has never even been a machine to even achieve perpetual motion yet (meaning, once it gets going, it generates enough energy to keep it going, not power anything else). Lots of people claim to have achieved this, but every single one has been tested, and failed. We will never, ever see it, unless we can get rid of friction all-together. As even in perpetual motion machines, there is always friction slowing it down, whether it be the bearings, or other moving parts.

I study electricity Considering it's about 99% of my job now'a'days...
