Default Got a problem...

i have a 93 4 banger and i was goin down the highway today and i blew a rod.
im moveing to houston from tampa next month and i have to drive this car.
iv looked for a replacement motor but not only can i not find one, from what iv been told its gonna be expensive as hell and not worth the effort.
iv planned all along to swap a 302 in but it looks like im gonna have to do it sooner than i thought.
is it doable and about hat price range am i lookin at to throw in a stock carb 302 and 5spd just to make it from florida to texas?
il only replace what i absolutely need to right now and when i get to texas with my new job i can start modding.
iv considered towing it with a uhaul, but you have to be 21 and iv just turned 20.

You will be best off finding a donor car, but maybe you can pick up the parts necessary from a salvage yard. You will need the engine and trans, motor mounts, crossmember, radiator, hoses, exhaust at least. Brakes would be advised. I think if you use a 5spd or AOD the drive shaft will work, but you may need one from a V8 car. Not real sure about that as the one swap I'm familiar with used a 9" Ford rear and there was a shaft made.

If you google this subject you may find more info as well.

Good luck.

imo a 8 cyl swap will take some time and $ if you have never done it before ...you might find yourself half done before you have to move ...i takes alot more that just a motor .....post a wanted ad on craigslist for a 4cyl ...most people dont even try to sell those because there not worth anything ...so you can probably find one cheap

problem he runs into with just replacing the motor is, (besides finding one) there is usually a lot of seals and sometimes gaskets that need to be replaced to get the motor back to a good running condition. The bill can add up pretty quick.

He is also is going with a carb motor so, that cuts down on a lot of the switch as far as computer, fuel injection and so on.

If you budget is good, I would go for it.

Probably get flamed for saying it but, you could always pull the pan and fix the problem from the bottom without pulling the head.
