5.0 identification questions/help..
i just bought my first project car and i'm in need of some help/advice.its got a 5.0 in but i'm not sure if its a speed density or a maf.it doesnt have a mass air flow sensor on it but being a conversion car i wasnt sure if they just never hooked it up.it doesnt run like a gt lol and i thought it just needed a good tune up and everything.i really havent found much info on the speed density motors though.i have the numbers off the tag on the block though.the top one is 4341831945 and the bottom says fdsfm302hcp.i just need to find a way to see what i have and if anyone has any tips on tuning/modding it if it is a speed density.

So it used to be a 4cyl and they put in a 5L? If you don't see a sensor, I would say it is speed density. It is never a bad idea to give it a good tune up if you dont know the history of it.
As far as modding speed density goes, I would just do the MAF conversion if you plan on doing any serious modifications to it.

If it's a speed density setup, the MAP sensor, which should be bracketed to the firewall behind the intake somewhere, will have a vacuum line running to it.
If you have a MAF setup, the vacuum port on it should be feeding from the open atmosphere, where it becomes a BAP sensor.

it used to be a 6cyl. car.as for the swap all i know is the wiring harness looks brand new.the car sounds like a speed density motor.it runs decent.all i really know is the water pump, altenator and belt are brand new and the wiring harness looks brand new.so are the motor mounts.it doesnt look like it was rigged but you never know about somethings.the motor isnt original though so thats why im trying to find out what it is so i know what i have.personally i think it is a speed density motor but i really dont know how to tell.is there any easy ways to tell?is there anyway to use the numbers off the tag on the block to tell?
