Default AOD questions

I am building a new jeep with a 5.0 and want to use an automatic. Do you need a computer to run the aod. when did they start using lock up torquconverters. And who has good strong parts for them. and any other important factoids about them would be great. I have always ran c-4 adn c-6 so the AOD is new to me.

The AOD is not controlled by a computer, it's controlled by a cable operated throttle valve. That's what makes the AOD a popular swap for older vehicles. If the 5.0 you are using is fuel injected, you will need the factory TV cable to control the TV valve on the AOD. If your 5.0 is carbed, you will need an aftermarket TV cable like the one made by Lokar. There are many companies that make performance parts for the AOD, the links below are 2 of the better ones.
