5.0L (1979-1995) Mustang Technical discussions on 5.0 Liter Mustangs within. This does not include the 5.0 from the 2011 Mustang GT. That information is in the 2005-1011 section.

Is the 302 a good weapon of choice?

While a "stock" 5.0 may not be anything special, especially in today's society, there is one thing it has going for it: TORQUE! And it makes a lot of this at a low, low rpm. You will not have to wind the car up to get moving. 4000rpm and you're done. Also, simple mods can really make a 5.0 come alive: 3.73 gears, bumped up timing, K&N, and exhaust and you have a 13 second car, if you can drive

Suspension, you're gonna want to look at control arms/bushings, and possibly a watts link or panhard rod. Make sure to check out the rear end too, a stock worn out LSD diff won't last long. Then there's subframe connectors at least for the chassis, depending on how much power you build you may or may not want/need a roll cage(if you go fast enough NHRA requires a bar, then a cage etc.).
You really should not do a PHB or Watts link with out also doing a torque arm and removing the upper control arms. Adding a PHB or Watts will just induce more bind in the suspension. If drag racing is all he is after, then just good upper and lowers and good shocks and springs will do the trick.
