Default weight reduction

these are some things you can do to eliminate weight from your car. also if you know of anything else go ahead and add it

these are what I did to my car

aluminum drive shaft
no sound dampening material
no insulation
tubular K member
no smog pump
no egr crap
tubular A arms
front coilovers
no front sway bar
no GT bracket
no rear seat
no spare or jack
fiberglass front bumper support for the rear[replaced the steel one]
fiberglass hood
lightweight wheels
no power steering
no AC
aluminum rad
no dog bone
no quad shocks or brackets
no tail pipes

now im probably going to be removing the braces in the doors and probably adding lightweight racing seats

i will point out that some of these arent the best idea for a street car that is used for DD or comumting. IE door braces, rear support
my car isnt a DD or commuter so i dont care. just a strip/street car

by doing all this you can easily shave off a few hundred lbs. and for every 100lbs its 1/10 off your time

These are for a strict drag car:

Take out headlights
Remove interior parts
Take out that Styrofoam thing in bumper
Take all stereo components out
Use only 1 seat and Replace it with lightweight seat

Those are some little ideas. But who has a strait drag car anymore? Ohh and if you want to do some serious weight reduction wash your car

fiberglass hatch, plexiglass windows, get rid of windshield washer resovoir and all the lines and pump. my car never gets dirty enough to need it (even if it did, i still wouldn't use it...)

dog bone is a balancer/dampler for the stock gears. [ts kinda like the weight on the AOD driveshaft. with an upgrade to the FRPP one you dont need it any more] with upgrade to different gears its not needed. some cases it is needed. in my case i havent had any issues before with it off.

OK, so I've looked around but what exactly is the curb weight of a bone stock GT and/or LX with 5 speed? I hear a lot of various things and I wanted to have an idea where I am starting.

EDIT: BTW, I've seen guys that end up having to install a cage in their car come back and sawzaw (sp?) all of the inner layer of the frame out. This is the stuff that acts as the attachment point for interior panels and whatnot. None of it is really needed if you have a cage. That is assuming you've stripped out the interior panels.

Removing the windshield wipers and motors, wiring, fuses, etc. can cut some weight. Using the aftermarket water repellant sprays (rainX for windows) will take car of minor sprinkles and rain but it's a real PITA to get it on.

Gut the dash supports, you can remove 25 or more pounds and still have a solid, stock looking dash. I just did this on a 95 GT, there was still more weight to taken out but I did not want to fab up custom mounts for the dash

I shaved 1/10th off just by removing all the performance stickers!
