Default Rear Main Question

Hey guys, new to the site and have a question. I am getting ready to buy my 4th pony and it has a leaky rear main. The current owner says it not that bad, but I will replace it anyway.

My question is do I have to pull the tranny to replace it? It is a 1992 LX 5.0 Limited Edition with an AOD. Treid the search and couldn't get a strait answer. Thanks!

If the '92 has the right engine in it it has a one piece seal. Trans and flex-plate will both have to be out of the way........

Thanks guys, this will be a bit of a challenge for me. All my others have been stick, I've never pulled an AOD before. I wonder how many hours the shop will charge to have somebody else do it?
