ATF IN T5??
#7
Not sure of how familiar you are with these transmissions but they will never be as quiet as say an automatic or front wheel drive.
They do make a bit more noise. If you are saying it makes more noise than the next T5 then it may be time to open it up and rebuild it. For a driver, they can make noise for years and many miles and live a happy life. For racing, well even a brand new one is not quite enough.
I'll definately stand behind recommending draining out that gear oil in favour of ATF but you will hardly notice any difference.
I had found gear oil in my 93 from the previous owner. I was looking pretty forward to driving it after swapping in Mobil One synthetic ATF but the truth is it still performed flawlessly. That includes speed shifting and slipping it into gear on a sub zero winter morning.

Mines been noisy for years. Still works, just not nearly as smooth as it once did. But it has lasted 165K miles so I can't really complain.
And yes, as for the noise, all you can do is overhaul it.
