Red face 91 Tensioner Bolt

I replaced the alternator but can't get the belt back on. I have been turning what I think is the tensionor bolt for a while but can't notice any difference. It is my understanding that this thing is reverse threaded right? How long should I have to turn to loosen it and how tight should it be when I eventually get this thing back on. I am kinda handy but no mechanic so please use simple terms. Thanks

there isn't any bolt you turn to loosen or tighten. you put a wrench on the tensioner pulley nut and turn the whole unit as 1. the unit will swing. retighten the center bolt that you loosened, too.
