Default clarification

i think my ignition is crapping itself. just want some other opinions. when i go to start the car itdoes absolutely nothing for a few secs then it will fire up. if its warm it wont fire at all and i have to jump the solenoid. thats another reason i think its the ignition because i can start by jumping the solenoid with no probs.

jumping the solenoid to engage the starter has nothing to do with ignition. you're speaking of two different things. clarify what is happening.

crank, no start?
no crank?

what...

isnt jumping the solenoid bypassing the signal from the ignition. thats what i thought. anyway it has power and everything but it doesnt turn over or crank or anything. i mean nothing. i know theres power because i measured the battery with my voltmeter and the lights work and i can hear the fuel pump come on.

ignition switch is in the steering column.

jumping the solenoid to engage the starter is simply that. jumping the solenoid. if you're turning the key and nothing happens, check the solenoid input trigger wire for voltage. the solenoid has 2 big posts, and 1 little post. that little post is the trigger wire. hold the key in the start position and check if 12v is coming in there. if it is, and the solenoid isn't working, replace the solenoid.

so the solenoid seems to be good. the coil is good theres plenty of power. now its at the point that it wont fire at all. when i turn the key, nothing. theres power but it wont try to turn over or anything. is there anything else it could be. im still thinking ignition switch.

My car was doing the same thing a few days ago. I went through and everything had power but when i went to start it, it wouldn't click or crank or anything. I replaced the starter relay, and the corroded negative cable that went to the block and it fired right up.
