1995 Mustang GT. The car has started to make a whine in the first three gears, but is quiet in 4th and 5th. Any idea's? It seems to shift fine.

Hmmm. Usually when 1st 2nd and 3rd whine 5th does also. I was gonna say countershaft issues since 4th is direct drive but I don't know nowww.

i bet it does still whine in 5th, just less pronounced due to the lower load and RPM associated with the speed limits in top gear

I had the same problem several years ago but with a Borg Warner 4 speed, it had been run low or out of oil and most of the gears and main shaft was rainbow blue. I couldn't afford to buy another one at the time so I figured drive it till it broke but it never did,I drove it 3 or 4 years and sold the car that way. Its noisy but if you can live with it just drive it, my suggestion get louder exhaust and it'll be fine...

Mines been noisy for years. Sounds like the in car camera of a NASCAR leaving the pits under caution. 165K on it and time for a refresh. It's hard to find someone locally that does manual transmissions. Everybody does automatics.
