Well, they are different functions. What you replaced is the coolant temperature sensor (2-wire), what you need to try is the temperature sending unit(1-wire). The temperature sending unit only has one terminal on it, much like the oil pressure sending unit.

its not called the temp sending unit. at the zone its classified as the temp switch. it took me forever to find it and the guy at the zone was useless so i had to take over using the comp lol

LMAO, Thats what you get for going to the Zone, it sucks, but I know we all have to go these places from time to time. AutoZone is stupid, BTW, since that item doesnt 'switch' anything, a switch is either on or off. If you look on AdvanceAutoParts.com, they call it a sending unit, and also www.latemodelrestoration.com.
