I'd also toss a new fuel filter in too,there could be something caught in it.

me and my dad are leaning towards a problem in the electrical area. but were also considering the fuel pressure regulator

you could clean the MAF, but i do believe that 87's don't actually come stock with a MAF so that would be it you actually have one on your car. . . .if im wrong someone correct me please. thanks

your correct...mass air stock was 89...check the cap and rotor...do you have a cam??
