What the heck. U/D pullies have been around forever. Why do people still use them if they cause so many problems?

So I went to O'reily and they said my Battery, Alternator and Starter are fine. So when I got home I switched all my pullies back to stock. Today on my way to work it still did the sputtering thing but not as bad as before. Any ideas as to what could be going on?

sounds like you have other problems, i would put the pullies aside until you fix it. Id start with checking the cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

I will check it. Back in August I changed the Distributor Cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs, and Wires.

Does messing with the pullies mess with the timing at all?

Even new parts can be defective, i had a rotor go bad after a couple months. Pullies won't change your timing. Your balancer is what you read the timing off and its behind your crank pulley.

Okay. How do I know if the rotor is bad? Will it have a lot of build up on it if its bad?

just make sure the metal tab on the rotor has the right tension. If it doens't, then it won't make full contact with the button on the underside of the dizzy cap and it will wear out the button(like it did with mine). If you have alot of build up on it, just replace it.

to check if your alternator is charging...start the car and pull the negative cable off the battery...if it dies, its your alternator....but in this case with u/d's...i just used the water pump pulley and crank pulley because u/d alt. pulleys are notorious for charging issues..no problems with mine once so ever...

I've run MAC aluminum pulleys for three years... no cooling or charging issues, ever.

Once again the pulleys are blamed for the failure of other parts.

they will deff bring out the worst in your car if you have an underlying issue that will eventually cause you problems down the road
