Default Help on catalytic converter help!

On my 1994 5.0, I have straight exhaust at the moment. And I wanted to know if I went ahead and added 2 Catalytic Converter that are 2.5 in and out, and work for a 1994 5.0, will it pass inspection, and it won't screw with my normal driving conditions correct? And would it also keep that straight exhaust sound? i dont have the OEM ones to get inspection, I just want it to keep sound, pass inspection, with my budget.

cats are always going to muffle the sound, no matter what. depending on your states laws & the particular station you go to, you might get rejected anyway, because these cars come with 4 cats, not 2.

i reckon they have 2 pre-cats and 2 cats stock. Idk about where you live but cars as old as ours just have to pass a visual inspection, as long as the cats are there it passes. If your car is hooked up to a sniffer then you might be in trouble with 2 high flow cats, you might not. Really depends on your laws.

Either way though adding any form of cats to your exhaust is going to change the sound.

So I can't just get 2 high flows, living in texas, and pass the test, and my car wont have driving problems?

iT REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW THE emissions test is run in your state, THEY'LL be some that may say FEDERAL LAW STATES iGNORE THAT HOG WASH IF PRESENTED, just find out what your local/ state requirement is that needs to be satisfied and do it every state is different.

i see you live in houston, tx. they will hook your car up to a sniffer. 2 cats may or may not work. not having mufflers shouldnt be a problem though, its just the emissions testing that might bite you in the a**

Ok, I know it depends on state rules, and like mjr46 said blah blah blah, but I wanted to know when I do get cats should I get something like http://www.jcwhitney.com/jcwhitney/p...901&id=3182396

Or should I get something like http://www.jcwhitney.com/HIGH-CAPACI...2006217;true;0

or am I needing http://www.jcwhitney.com/HIGH-FLOW_C...2009548;true;0

I know it's a lot but I am trying to find the right cats, and again I know it depends on state law just trying to narrow my search, and possibilities.

if you have a tail pipe test, all that matters is about what comes out the pipe, so a set of high flow may lower the emissions to the proper level, If it were mine, I'd look for a set of used take off ones that some one no longer wants, I picked a set up for 40 beans a few years ago, just for those AL GORE DAYS when it is needed..lol
