How far off is the Stock Tach.
#11
Ok an update on this.
Took the car out last night and decided that I was gonna see if the tach was off once and for all. So I put it in 2nd gear and let it ride on the highway. As soon as the stock tach read 6400rpmtherev limiter cut in. I have a 6400rpm pill in my MSD 6AL.
As far as the stock limiter, doesn't seem to be one. If there is it is unnoticeable. When that MSD limiter hit, you knew it right away, sounds like the car went on a two step. As far as my car is concerned the stock tach is dead on. Doesnt look to be off by anything. hopefully you guys can use this as a reference in the future.

I really doubt there is an accurate answer for this thread.
Probably the accuracy between two stock tach/cars is not even close. Add age/mileage of the car, a static reading vs swinging up quickly to a big number. Too many variables.
My car came with an Autometer 5" monster tach. When I bought it 3 years ago. I clearly remember the 2 tachs being dead on with each other.
Since at least a year ago the stocker is about 200rpm higher at idle.
At redline with my foot to the floor, trying to make sense of 200rpm with the stock tach is like trying to accurately measure the height of a tree with a vernier.
I do find shifting accurately against the Autometer easier.
Noticed this because I tried to get used to the stock tach so I could remove the monster but have not bothered yet.
If the stock tach is out. It can be out 2 ways. A percent of error, which will probably grow as the number gets higher OR it's off by say 200 it will be off by 200 throughout the range.
