Question MSD Distributor question.

89 5.0 GT vert. --- So im looking into getting a new distributor but there's a few that i have to choose from. My number one question, do i have to get the one with the TFI module on it, or can i get one without it and keep my MSD 6AL box? I dont want the one with the TFI module because the 6AL box is not required and i like the stronger spark it provides.

you don't actually have to have it, but be wary that you'll have a CEL pop up. (correct me if I'm wrong)

Since when???....YES YOU NEED THE TFI!!! it is what filters the pip signal from the hall effect sensor in the dizzy and thus sends it to the ecm thus triggering inj pulse...ect ect, amongst other things.........delete it and get a dizzy without one and see how well the car will start.

Ok so when I go to get an MSD distributor, I have to get the one with the TFI module and the built-in ignition module and remove my 6AL box? sh!tty... I thought the new distributors did for you what the TFI does on the OE distributors. No? Ok so then I guess my next question is, how would I keep the MSD box and still upgrade distributors?

thanks again.

go to msd'd website, it'll tell you how to wire in a msd box with a tfi set up.....however IMO with a mild n/a set up the stock ignition produces more than ample spark.....if you had a high compression set up or boosted application then I could see the need
