Default 25 lb weight in passenger front wheel well

1994 Mustang GT Convertible. I am swapping out original suspension with Steeda Gtrac system and found what looks like a 25 pound counter weight mounted just forward of the passenger side front wheel well. Does anyone know what it's purpose is and whether or not I should keep it?

I looked on Fordpartsdirect.com and the illustration called it a "Damper assy back". It didn't differentiate whether it was for a convertible or not. It sure would be an easy way to get rid of 25 pounds. By the way msrp for a 25 lb cylinder shaped hunk of steel is 847.72.

uhh... maybe you're thinking aluminum. 25 lbs of steel is worth maybe $40
