damn thats going to be alot of money into this motor. I figured i could build one for under 6000 dollars but it looks like its going to be well into the 7 k range and i still want to put a supercharger on it. heres what i have priced out..
R302 bare block- $1700
AFR 185 Heads- $1300
Costom grind cam- $250??
331 stroker kit- $1200-1300
Eldelbrock performer 5.0 RPM II intake manifold-$600
Extras-$1200-1500

Let me know what you guys think

you better add around 700 to 1000 more. to have the R-block machine work done you have to get the final honed for the bore size and aline-bored down the mains, get the lifters fitted to the lifter bores and get it decked then you will need to clearance the block for the stroker and get the kit balanced.None of the blocks Dart or the R block are cheap but think of it this way if you blow the DSS stuff up then you have to build another motor then you have spent about the same as you would have doing a good block. The Dart tend to need less machine work but cost more to buy and are rated at the same HP as the R-block unless you get the Iron Eagle then they start at $2100 and are rated at 2000+hp.while the R-block may be cast at Dart they are not the same block by far and in the end the Dart is stronger I have one of each I got the R-block new and got the Dart used just last week for my car, the R-block is gone in the wifes car.

anybody else have any coments? i am open to anything. i need to make a decision on a block so i can buy it and start building. i really didnt think it was going to be this expensive to build this motor. hmm thats alot of money. thats not even including the supercharger i want to get. but that can wait, and i also want a paint job. like a dark charcoal color. then possibly some new wheels.

I have been scouring summit and seems to me if you get the frpp 347 and the trick flow efi kit you could have a whole block for less than 5g's. Thats of course assuming you use all the acc off the old motor. The trick flow efi kits comes with cam, pushrods, heads, timing chain, and upper and lower intake. The 347 is a short block so you should be good to go.

Looking at the short block from Ford Racing. I heard the old 347's had oil issues but dont think that is an issue with new 347's. I could be wrong. Still researching my block also.

yeah..i really want to do a 331 just to be safe with no oil issues. but a 347 would be nice. more displacement etc.. plus my car is heavier than a fox. they need to make a 331 shortblock
