Default Vortech S/C Install Questions

I just purchased the base level V3 kit for my 89 LX. I have a few simple questions that I am hoping someone can help me out on.

1. - The car has all of the bolt-on goodies (HCI). It has a 255 gph inline fuel pump and 32# injectors. The throttle body is a 70mm BBK unit and the MAF is a 75mm Pro M. I was told that when I added the S/C I would need to go with a bigger MAF. What size should I be looking at going with?

2. - The smog pump has been completely removed from the car. From the looks of the installation instructions for the S/C when the alternator is relocated, it doesn't look like the main belt will work with the smog pump missing. Is this true? Can I run the S/C kit without the smog pump pulley or do I need to put the "fake" pulley in it's place?

I'm sure I will have more questions, but these are the first two I came up with so far. Thanks in advance for any help.

an 80mm maf would be nice but not completely needed. the injectors you have are tiny, your going to need to run the fmu that comes with the kit if keep those injectors. if memory serves, your going to need a dummy pulley. i know when i had a v1 on my car and no smog, i had to put the pump back in just for the pulley, i didnt hook up the plumbing tho

My 2 cents...

Buy a Smog Delete Pulley...they are on Ebay or Summit, 5.0 Resto etc...they are cheap enough and will make things easier.

I would go with at least 42 pound injectors and not run the FMU, but that is my opinion.

The MAF should be fine.

I would think you could get away with a shorter belt. But if not get a smog delete kit. If the belt is too tight it will work its way off.

Thanks for the input. Dang, I was thinking these 32# injectors would be big enough to get by without having to run the FMU.

WITH A 5-6 PSI KIT you most likrly could get away with 32 lbs inj's but only way to be sure is do dyno pulls and monitor a/f

I agree I'd run a smog delete pulley too.

If I was planning on making over 400 hp, I would upgrade to 42s and have the meter re-cal'd. probably just shy of a grand after the tune. I would run the fmu with the correct disc in it until then.
