I remember the day I canned the stock H-pipe in favor of a cat-less X pipe...The sound difference alone left me smilin wider than Micheal Jackson at a boy scout jamboree ..heh

yes if u take off your cats in the mustang's your check engine light will come on atlest mine did, the cat has a tube coming off it that runs up to your vaccume lines and it recirculates unburned fuel and air and what not for emissions (this is how your car passes emissions) when you pull the cats off your TAD sensors (thermactic air deverter) isnt recieving and air or fuel, so it throws on your check engine light and youll run like **** at a constant rpm, to fix this eliminate your emissions stuff and plug the vaccume lines and viola check engine lights gone and u gain 10hp!

this is from personal experience with my 95 gt maybe some cars are diffrent i dunno

The pipe that goes to your cats is hooked up to the air pump which blows into the cats to keep the cats from getting clogged as far as I know. If you take that off all that will happen is the air pump with blow to atmosphere. The only reason you should get a check engine light is if you have 4 o2 sensors two in front and two behind the cats. I'm not sure when they started doing that on mustangs but mine only has 2 in front so there was no problem.
