Default AOD Tranny Problem Need Help B4 Tomorrow

Hey all,

The shop just rebuilt my AOD with all the goodies I gave them including an Art Carr manual/automatic valve body. It was supposed to be ready today but they called and said it won't go into overdrive. They are going to try and sort out the problem in the morning but I'd like to have some suggestions for them. I believe this valve body is set so it won't go into OD at full throttle so you have to back off a bit for it to kick up, but it won't kick into OD at any speed. I know the shift pattern is different too, but when it's in OD is should behave like normal. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe a TV cable adjustment, but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It is probably the TV cable, if they know how to rebuild a transmission they should know how to fix it, unless they did something wrong [&:] which I hope didn't happen... GOOD LUCK!!!

That's what I'm thinking. They are supposed to be one of the best shops around so I'm pretty sure they built it right, but I gave them this Lokar kickdown cable that's pretty trick and they were having trouble with it, so maybe I'lll have them switch it back to stock or do some adjusting on it.

why did you give a pressured shifted tranny a kick down cable???also there shouldnt be no difference in shift pattern if its a standard VB> its when you become a reverse VB thats when you have adifferent shift pattern. also could be the OD band is shot

It still uses a kick down because the vb is manual/auto. You can use it either way so it still requires the cable. The OD band is brand new seeing as they just rebuilt the transmission for me. The shift pattern isn't reversed but it is changed a little. Instead of being
1-23-OD it's 1-2-3OD This shouldn't matter though. It should still work the same in OD. Thanks for all the input.

AOD dont use a kickdown cable. a C4 does, not a AOD. AOD uses a TV cable which goes off line pressure, not like a kickdown where it goes by position of the throttle.

also since its 'brand new' you ever think that they installed it wrong? or you ever thought that they said its new but its not. also for OD shifts it could be the servo or something to do with it

Yeah I don't know why I was thinking kickdown cable, but it is tv cable. I suppose they could have done something wrong on the build but they have been in business since the 60's and they seem pretty good. I know the band is new cuz I supplied them with all the parts for the rebuild. It also has a brand new A+ overdrive servo. They think it might just be the governor and a little tv cable tweaking since the vb, servo, and OD band are all new. I hope there's not something wrong with the valve body. On a side note, when I went down there they asked me to drive it and see if I liked the shift feel in the other gears. It shifts so damn hard and fast it might be a little too much for the street. It's like instant engagement in every gear and it will bark the tires in second and third at 3K effortlessly

Here's what I used for the build QUIK

Alto master rebuild kit with clutches, steels, seals etc.
Art Carr Manual/Automatic valve body
Kevlar OD band
A+ overdrive servo
New thrust bearings
Hardened lockup shaft
2500 rpm stall converter. (probably should have gone 3K)
FRPP trans cooler
New flexplate and rear main seal
Redline Fluid

thats seems like some good parts. what size are the OD band. also you should of went aroudn 2800 for sure from the door. also what size is the cooler.

it could be the governor but im thinking its in the servo band or the OD band. ppl make mistakes sometimes so anything can happen
