Default any info for changing head gas

im gonna replace my head gaskets, any links and/or info on this, this is the first time im gonna get this deep in an engine, my dads gonna help me he's been doing the stuff for years but on chevys (boo hiss)

go to the library tomorrow and get you the "motors" book..also don't be cheap on the head gaskets. I would run the heads by and have about 5-10,000th over of them at a machine shop..this will ensure a good seal and bring compression back to normal with the thicker gasket

thats what i had in mind, im going to pick up a chilton's too. would copper gaskets be alright, or should i stick with some felpros...

I just did this to a v6 Tbird and i got a few tips. First off be patient, it takes a long time to get it done. Second, get a chilton so you dont mess up on the vaccumm hoses when you put them on(trust me its hard to remember them all) next, get good gaskets, the extra money is worth it, and seal it with silicon. Like the other guy said get the heads machined down, and you should get ready to fork out some cash mine was bout 500 or so by the time i was done. remember the firing order and make sure to have impact sockets to get the heads off. my dads got all the know-how...hes gonna make me do it right the first time anyway...but im going to swing by autozone and pick up a chiltons....
