Question 87 5.0 f150 advice on rebuild

Hey all, aside from my 08 sixer I also have a 87 F-150 5.0. After 218,000 miles Its about time to start thinking about a rebuild or replacement. I don't want anything monster but somthing around 325-350hp with nice torque would be right on. I don't want to to spend more then 2.5 to 3K on the redo. What do you all think. Maybe boring it to a 306 and new heads????? Thanks.

why not do a 351 with new heads? Depending on what tranny you have it wouldn't be a big deal. If you have an aod you would need a new flywheel for the change. but there is no replacement for displacement.

I have thought about that. It would be nice to have a big 351 under the hood. And yea I have the AOD trany. Its a XLT Lariet. I might just have to price a 351 and see what I can find.

IIRC you need a 50 oz flywheel, but you need a different on then came on your 302. The crown vics were the only vehicle for made with aod and 351, and it is their plate you need.

Depending on how much highway driving you do, I would think about replacing the aod with a c6. You pick-up alot of strenght for the cost of not having overdrive.

I will be doing this to the aod I grenaded in my bronco. You can pick them up for $100 in the junkyards around me.
