Starter and flywheel teeth are totally FUBAR. Looking at replacements. I'm going to tag the car historic, so no more than 3000 miles a year. Also won't be taken it to the track (maybe just once to see what it does run). So basically, I'm just happy I do have a mustang now and am working on restoring it alittle and don't care for how fast it is (well it's a perk lol). Will my setup (in sig) be compatable with a cheaper replacement flywheel made of cast iron? I'm also looking at a "cryogenically treated" one on latemodelrestoration.com that's 150. I don't want to break the bank and am hoping a OEM replacement will do the trick. Also I've been told to replace the throwout bearing while I'm down there (clutch has plenty of biting power, not replacing that)? Anything special to keep in mind? How about the rear main seal?
^^remove and replace....................personally, I'd just get the ford racing oem replacement flywheel, that's what I did for my 89 = worked great...where in MD are you???
depends, if the flywheel comes with them, IIRC my ford racing one came with them, but I may be wrong, you will need the bolts, so might as well have the dowels handy, hmmm westminster ehh??? I work in frederick.....ever go to the jimmie cone there???
Heads up on a pitfall...it is stated not to reuse flywheel bolts but many people do. Here is the pitfall that needs attention. Use sealant or RTV on flywheel bolts or you will have a oil leak.
