Red face 5.0 Stumble/Hesitation around 3000 RPM

I have a 95 GT 5-speed and it doesn't have the takeoff power it should. Ive replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and fuel filter and that didn't help at all. Right around 3000 RPM it will stumble and act like it don't want to accelerate any faster. If I try to push it past that sometimes Ill get a little popping back through the throttle body. The Check Engine light comes on sometimes and goes back off when restarted. Ive tried to have oreillys and Auto Zone read the DTC but nobody's scanner will communicate with the car. The car is really weak at first start and gets better after warm-up. The car has no cats and I have installed a short belt to bypass the smog pump. I would appreciate anyone's help or suggestions < thanks

Not trying to jack the thread, but my car is having very similar problems to what you stated. Is there any way to test the tfi module?

here is a site to check for no start http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,588.0.html

but you can take it off and have autozone check it. but its hard cuz i think you want to test it when its hot

Check fuel pressure. EEC1V tests and cylinder balance. Post results. Get Haynes manual, will describe how to test without OBD 1 tester. Do the test post results. Mighty expensive to guess.

Are your spark plugs gapped correctly. Make sure to use a feeler guage and not the cheap gapper tools that places like auto zone sells.

Also check to see if your timing is correct. This will definitely cause issues if it is off.

Maybe an exhaust leak. This could cause power loss issues.

they make a special tool for them you can buy them at autozone. or you need a very thin walled socket
