Default Rear end questions

Hello, Well I no longer have the car in my sig. haven't had it for about 3 years now LOL. But I did just get a 90GT (Being converted to a LX) I hate the GT body kit. Well my new project is going to be a drag car. It is currenty in the body shop getting painted (Flat black of course) I was going to keep the 8.8 rear end.

My question.. How much power can a 8.8 Take? I was going to get some FR gears 3.70's spooled with some stonger axles.

The engine set up is supposed to have around 500 N/A.. And if it doesn't run what I want it to.. well I will spray the SH*T out of it...

8.8 rear can take a lot. Especially when built properly. You shouldn't have to worry about it failing.

If it's going to be a drag car why the 3.70's?
4.30 is much better if you are running 1/4 mile, 4.88 if you run 1/8th mile.
8.8's will take a lot of power IF they are built right.......

I'm pretty sure 3.7's is where the math came out to be. I might have to double check. wanting to trap about 130-140. Going with 28inch slicks.

3:73 rear gears should work well. i have 4:10 gears now and i have to shift into fifth at the end of the 1/4. i need 3:73's.

your using your stock tach huh ???

save yourself $500 and put a real tach in there. i can pretty much guarantee your trapping at 5300-5500 rpms

stock tach is way off... and gets worse the higher the r's get, if for some reason it is tach'ing too high, id get a 28" tire b4 swapping gearsets

+1 on 4.10's, 3.73's with a 28 inch tire ??? that sounds crazy. why not leave it stock and 26 inch tire for that matter ???? something is not making sense.

Well I haven't ordered my gears yet and it sounds like I need to get some 4.10's. Is there any difference between the automatic and 5speed final drive ratio. I'm pretty sure the trans I'm going to be running is only 1:1 ratio in final drive.

if it's an aod type 4 speed trans (aod, aode, 7r40w) then no... od is a .68 or .67 and so is a t5

so yes they are the same

c4 , c6 are 1:1 as they are only 3-speeds

good call on the 4.10's, you WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED , it'll feel like adding 100 hp or so

good choice, bare min 4:10's using those antiquate old shoolers formulas such as the ole carb cfm calculation is just plain....well you know.........watched a guy today with 4.30 gears and 26 inch tire and he's trapping 130, so you can easily do a 4.10 -4.30 gear as long as the motor can turn some rpm
