Default Compression test on 5.0 carburated

I want to do a compression test on my '85 5.0L and I'm not sure what to do to stop fuel on my carburated engine. Normally, I know that you would disconnect the fuel pump but I'm not sure exactly how. Also, what would be the ideal compression for an '85 GT? Any help is appreciated and I tried searching already. Thanks in advance.

Disconnecting the fuel pump is the only way that you are going to stop the fuel flow.

Pull the fuse for the pump...you didn't say electric or not.

I think it's a mechanical pump. Should I disconnect the line from the carb? Or, just the return line? Should I disconnect both lines and connect them together so fuel dosen't spray out everywhere?

If mechanical, all you have is gravity flow, so disconnect both and either plug/crimp both or connect together like you said.
