91 LX T-5 crossmember upside down?
O.K. so I just got this car and am going through it fixing things. I was underneath it this morning and noticed the T5 cross member is upside down..What issues if any could this cause? I sometimes hear an odd noise coming from under the car when shifting. Could this be making the drive train bind in some manner. Thanks in advance.

ive heard it all now! how did they manage that!? It seems like it would change the angle (up and down) that the tranny and engine sit in the car.The tranny is bolted to the engine though so it shouldnt effect the clutch, press. plate, flywheel, etc. I would change it so its right!

No sorry no pics..I know..I know..no pics, it didn't happen. BUT IT DID!! I just got back from the shop and they already flipped it over correctly. I thought I was going nuts after fixing so many other issues and then seeing this. I thought "No way" did someone do that. But they did...All that noise is now gone when I shift and the guy said it moved the transmission about 2 inches down when he flipped it over. It was definitely binding. Oh well just another day with a stang. =)

How do people like that manage to find their car in the morning?
Not surprising though. I've seen T-5's filled with 90 weight gear oil (why is it hard to shift?), a smog pump plumbed into the air inlet tube (man, it works just like a supercharger!) and a GT-40 upper and lower held together with lag bolts.
Best one was an 86 GT someone had converted to a carb setup....with a Rochester Quadrajet and a GM HEI module wired in to run the ignition...but still running the 88lph in-tank pump with no fuel pressure regulator.

Guess what, no difference, but I do feel better knowing I now had the proper fluid.
As for the backwards crossmember. Part of this can be blamed on Ford. If the part can go in backwards. They should fix it so it won't. Similar to a weighted flywheel or an electrical connector. It will only go on one way.

The T-5 I saw with 90W in it would barely go into gear. It was supposed to be a fresh rebuild but we ended up tearing it down and rebuilding it again. Either way, the girl had let a hack work on her Saleen...
