It's my understanding that the real difference between the 2.3l t-5 and the 5.0 t-5 is that first gear is shorter in the 2.3l (to help off the line) I don't know if this makes it weaker or not, knowing ford I don't believe it would (cheap bastards like to just make one part in one strength) One of the more senior members should chime in with more knowledge than I have

shafts are different, pilots are diff too i think. and the 4-cyl t5 is NOT a world class

cost you a few bucks to change it just to make it work.

not worth it at all imo

first gear IS steeper, 3.35:1 I think. seen the 4 cyl. T-5 used behind a V-8.....they don't survive that long. One friend had an SVO and the turbo 2.3 could break input shafts with ease.

actually ive done one of those swaps recently on a buddies 5.0 and it seems like its holdin up pretty good put it through some abuse and held up fine although u do need to change the pilot bushing to a bearing we found one at autozone i think the outside diameter has to be the same as the 5.0 and the inside has to be the same on the 4cyl i think they actually sell the bearings on ebay for more money though.

yeah the first gear is pretty much useless behind a v8. its pretty low, my friend has the e303 cam, msd 6al, 373s,gt40s, bbk headers, bbk x pipe, and its carbed, plus many more mods, and that 4cyl tranny held up to multiple burnouts and launches so it should last a little while but he can flor it in first and just roast the tires and as soon as u know it its tached out though.
