Default 95 gear ratio??

hello fellow mustang owners,
my name is steve, i have a 95 mustang gt (automatic) with some mods. I was wondering how to determine what our rear end gear ratio is. There is a series of numbers and letters on the rear gear box cover but it does'nt indicate a gear ratio. The car is sluggish from a dead stop but when the rpm's are high its very quick. What gear ratio is recomended for best 1/4 mile times.

help would be very appreciated, thanks

Someone at the local track last night suggested either 3:88 or 4:10 gears. Car presently redlines at around 50 mph in 1st gear and 2nd will take me to 80 mph. What difference would i see with the above gear changes, and how would my street driveability be affected.
Thanks for the response.

i think he means he gets up to 50 with his 2.73 gears

lower gears will definately make your car faster but your top speed will suffer. do you do a lot of highway driving? if so, then dont get too low of gears

the tag on the rear end does indicate the gear ratio. it should read 2L73 or 3L08 maybe without the L but i doubt it with the V8 the L stands for limited slip/trac-loc.

i suggest the 3.73 gear ratio. its not to bad and not to bad on gas either.
