Default race fuel ?

is anyone running race gas in there stock 5.0? i have a 88gt with minor mods that include long tube headers, no cats, and flowmaster mufflers. also advanced timing from 10' to 14'. i heard of people mixing 1 gallon of 110 octane with 10 gallons of 93 octane. is it really worth the money? with it damage anything?

unless you need it, it really isn't necessary. Just expensive

considering the "mods" you have listed, you are already losing performance by running 93 octane.

Don't slow yourself down further with race fuel.

i was just interested in why you say that i am "losing performance" by running 93 octane? not trying to be a smart-***. so you think i should stick with 87 or 89 even with the timing bumped up a couple notches?

becaus more octane REDUCES combustability. therefore you MUST raise timing just to reach the power level you were b4

to make optimum power, you want to be as little octane, and much timing as you SAFELY can

factors are humidity and temp, less dense air needs less timing than if you powertimed at 70* day

under 80* your fine with 12* and 87 octane...probably good with 14* but you'll need to find that out. at the track make runs starting at 8 or 10* and each run bump 2*

watch your mph.... when it slows go to where it was highest. dont mind et, but disregard the mph if you spin bad and run again

given the compression of your engine, the style of engine it is, and what currently available fuels are. Yes, I say you would have better results with regular 87 or 89, and keeping your timing around 12°

dumping in "race fuel" isnt going to make you faster. I dont even run race fuel, and I drive a 11.25:1 CR 347 stroker.

What Adder and Bob said. You want to run the most timing with the least octane you can get away with, and only use higher octane if absolutely necessary due to engine/tune setup. I run crap California 91 in mine(and Cali gas is oxygenated a fair bit) with an aggressive tune, steep timing curve, relatively lean....and I run it hard in an area where summer temps get up to 110+ F.

Really, race gas is for race cars.
