Air silencer question...

Default Air silencer question...
I recently removed my air silencer, or thought I did. I removed it last week and it looked exactly like an air silencer. Quik is telling me when I remove it I'm suppose to see straight to the fender. There were two air silencers (i'm guessing?) and one curves out and opens towards my headlight. Should that entire thing be removed so there is no tubing or anything coming out of the fender? Then what the hell did I pull out in the first place? Does anyone have any pics of their fender with the air silencer removed? Here is a pic of it now...

theres only one silencer shown in that pic the other piece is just the air box
