Default smoking ignition

i have a 1990 lx 5.0, went to start the car today and it turned over then quickly died, on my second attempt i got nothing at all except white smoke coming from the ignition switch, and a puff of smoke from under the hood. my interior lights work and the horn blows, headlights and brake lights work, but there is no power to my stereo, power windows, and none of the indicator lights come on when the ignition is in the on position. its like the battery is dead but i know it is fine, when i turn the key it makes no noise at all. any helpful advice? thanks.

yah. tow it to a ford dealer and have them perform the recall on the ignition switch, cuz you just exhibited the exact symptoms they issued the recall for.

the magic smoke, I would call and make sure that your car wasn't already "serviced" for the recall so you don't waste a tow to the ford dealer. and if they don't its a cheap and easy fix to do yourself.

Electricity is magic..works until you let the smoke out of the wire.
