Default stripped differential fill plug

I stripped the fill plug on my 8.8 rear end... lucky me I had already drained the oil. So now I have to install a fill plug on my differential cover. How would you do it for temporary purpose. I gotta drive it to storage in a few days and don't want to do that with dry gear.

did you just try to chase the threads and get a bolt

and now that I've read your question don't take this as exactly correct but I seem to remember an old 4x4 show that would fill a ziplock back (with the zipper cut off and bag tied) that had the correct amount of diff fluid in it, they would place it in the diff and bolt up the cover then it would shred the bag and leave the scraps in the bottom. Its just something that stuck in my memory. Other wise take the cover off, drill and tap for a "short" bolt and use that as a fill plug

i don't know if you read it front but the fill flug on the differential its self is stripped. And can't get it out to fill the differential back up. So I need to install a fill plug onto the differential cover.

This is more common than you might think. Go down to NAPA and they'll get you a slightly larger self tapping plug to fix this.

if you mean the square is stripped out then you can try a torx bit, wise grips, or welding something to it. If the threads on the plug are stripped replace it. If the threads in the pumpkin are stripped use a heli-coil.

Thats should cover everything.

How do you vise grip a hole? I do like the welding idea. Often the heat from the welding also helps with the extraction.

Helicoil for NPT thread?

Ya, I read it and still don't understand how you vise grip a NPT flush mounted plug that has a RECESSED FEMALE 3/8" square.
